Absence

St.Christopher's EYFS Unit follows the local Government of Gibraltar schools' calendar that can be found on the 'Term Dates' page.  This has ensured that families with children in Year 1 and above are able to take holidays together and prevent the need for children to miss any school time.  The children at St. Christopher's thoroughly enjoy their time at school and consistent attendance goes a long way in supporting their learning and development.

However, we recognise that there are times where absence cannot be prevented such as in the case of illness.  If your child is unable to attend school due to illness please contact the school and let us know on the first day of absence as the staff in the office will contact parents on the same day if we are unaware of the reason that your child is not in school to make sure that everything is OK.  The same applies if your child will be late or leaving early due to medical appointments.

Please remember that a child must have 24 hours clear before returning to school after the last episode of sickness or diarrhoea.  For other periods of absence due to illness please consult the medical centre and keep the school informed.  The Health Protection Agency has produced a guide with advice to support infection control https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/health-protection-in-schools-and-other-childcare-facilities

As a Service Children's School we are very sensitive to the many transitions and routine changes that are often part of life for families working within and for the Armed Forces.  We appreciate that leave periods such as Post Operational Tour Leave may fall within the term times and, as such, the school has a request form for any absences that are not related to illness/medical needs.  These need to be completed in advance of any absence.

Please see the attached leaflet below for further information regarding attendance

If, for any reason, you are unable to collect your child from school then please contact us and give the school the name of the person who you give your permission to collect your child on your behalf. We will ask that person for identification and will not release your child to any person who has not been identified by you.
